Affiliate Disclosure β We Earn Commission on Product Links
Heating Cost Calculator participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. If you buy a product through a link on this site we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. That commission is why the site is free, and you should read any product recommendation here with it in mind. It does not change the arithmetic in our calculators β the running-cost figures come from published energy prices and physics, not from what a retailer pays β but we would rather you knew about the incentive than trusted us not to have one.
Estimates Only
Every figure produced by this site is an estimate from average energy prices and standard engineering assumptions. It is not a quotation and not a prediction of your bill. Real costs depend on things the calculators cannot see: how airtight and well insulated the building is, what temperature you actually hold and for how many hours, the age, sizing and condition of your equipment, how cold the particular winter turns out to be, and your utility tariff β fixed monthly customer charges, tiered rate blocks, seasonal rates and time-of-use pricing are all excluded from our numbers, which use the energy rate alone. Any one of those can move a real bill by more than the difference between two heating fuels.
Not Professional Advice
Nothing on this site is professional energy, financial, tax, or HVAC advice, and nothing here should be the sole basis for spending money on heating equipment. Statements about federal tax credits describe the law as we understand it and are not tax advice β IRC Β§25C and Β§25D both terminated for property placed in service after 31 December 2025, and no page here should be read as promising a credit. Consult a qualified HVAC contractor or energy auditor about your own home, and a tax professional about your own return.
Advertising
This site reserves space for advertising. Advertisers have no involvement in our content, our calculator formulas, or our rankings, and no advertiser or affiliate partner reviews pages before publication. Where third-party advertising is served, those networks may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies; see our privacy policy for what the site itself loads.
Energy Rate Data
Energy prices come from the US Energy Information Administration and each is labelled with its exact series and reporting period rather than a bare year β electricity from the Electric Power Monthly for a single named month, natural gas as a winter average, and propane and heating oil from a weekly programme that runs only from October to March. Prices move; a figure that was accurate on the date shown at the top of a page may not be accurate today, and rates in your own service territory can differ substantially from a state or national average. The rate printed on your own utility bill is always the better input.
